PR41: Innovative STEM Learning Through Model Boat Design And Construction

STEM education requires innovative teaching approaches that integrate theoretical knowledge with authentic hands-on experiences. This innovation introduces a Project-Based Learning (PBL) framework that enables secondary school students to design, fabricate, assemble, and evaluate a functional model boat while integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics concepts. Students begin by producing a three-dimensional (3D) model using Autodesk Inventor before fabricating the hull structure from plywood through precision cutting techniques. The construction process continues with framing, planking, sanding, waterproof finishing, and flotation testing. 

The innovation strengthens students' technical competencies, problem-solving skills, teamwork, creativity, and engineering thinking while simultaneously increasing their interest in STEM-related careers. The learning framework provides a cost-effective, scalable, and engaging approach that can be implemented in schools, STEM programmes, TVET institutions, innovation competitions, and community outreach activities
