Abstract
Low financial literacy from an early age remains a persistent challenge in financial character education in Indonesia. This study aims to develop "Monopoli Jelajah Finansial Kalimantan Selatan" (South Kalimantan Financial Exploration Monopoly), a local wisdom-based board game designed to enhance financial literacy among elementary school students in grades 3–6, encompassing the understanding of needs versus wants, budgeting, earning income, and saving. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method following the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). Data were collected through expert validation sheets, observations, and pretest–posttest measurements. The validation results confirmed the product's feasibility, with material expert validation scoring 91.7% (highly valid) and media expert validation scoring 76% (valid), while the practicality test conducted with teachers and students achieved 81.5% (highly practical). The limited trial demonstrated a significant improvement in students' financial literacy, characterized by enhanced money management skills, reduced impulsive decision-making, and greater learning engagement compared to conventional teaching methods. The realistic financial dilemma features, dual-currency point system, and dedicated Banker role proved effective in bridging abstract economic concepts with children's practical decision-making. This study concludes that culturally grounded educational games constitute a valid, practical, and effective learning medium for cultivating sound financial habits from an early age.
