NETSIT (Network Simulation Trainer) is an educational training device developed to assist students in understanding network connectivity conditions and troubleshooting techniques in a practical and interactive manner. The trainer simulates three common network scenarios: Normal, Fault, and Unstable conditions, allowing users to observe and analyse different network behaviours in a controlled environment.
The system is built using an ESP32 microcontroller, a relay module, push buttons, status indicators, and an OLED display. Users can select different network conditions through the scenario button, while the reset button returns the system to the normal operating state. The relay module manipulates Ethernet cable connections to emulate various network faults and unstable link conditions. Corresponding status indicators and OLED messages provide real-time feedback regarding the selected scenario.
The trainer enables students to perform troubleshooting activities using common networking tools such as ping, ipconfig, and other command-line utilities. By experiencing realistic network issues, learners can develop practical skills in diagnosing connectivity problems, interpreting network behaviour, and applying systematic troubleshooting methodologies.
NETSIT offers a low-cost, portable, and user-friendly solution for networking laboratories and classroom demonstrations. The implementation of simulated network conditions enhances experiential learning and bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world network troubleshooting practices. The trainer is particularly suitable for engineering and information technology programmes, where hands-on learning is essential for developing technical competency and problem-solving skills.
